On the weekend, my day typically begins sitting down with my breakfast & coffee at my desk. Since I’m trying to do the whole “eating healthier” deal at the moment, that means breakfast is two eggs on a bagel thin and a piece of fruit. I take my coffee black, so I get to have as much of that as I want. A detail which makes eating healthier much, much more tolerable. You’re lucky, my desk is relatively tidy right now! While I eat, I go through email, see if there is anything that needs to be handled as soon as possible and scroll through Twitter and Facebook. I don’t usually hang around there too long, but I have an amusing conversation going on with a few friends about Conlin O’Donoghue and Eion Bailey (Captain Hook and August Booth, respectively, on the show Once Upon a Time) which quickly spirals into fighting words. I suspect this won’t be settled until we all meet face to face in May at the RT Booklover’s Convention in New Orleans. Though, maybe not considering some of the conversations we’ve had when we get together before…
Today is a special day for me, as it’s the four year anniversary of when my first book was published! Flash of Dark, a super sexy paranormal romance, was released on January 18, 2010. Though the book, and the others in the series, aren’t available any longer, my editor for that book is still a very good friend and we talk almost daily about anything and everything. We chat for a little bit, both all misty eyed about the memory.
I have to remind myself I need to get some work done and I have a lot to do. So I have to shut down the internet (a frequent practice for me, because otherwise, I would never get anything done!). Another cup of coffee and I’m ready to dig in. The header I made a few weeks ago for my website has been bothering me and I’m feeling creative enough at the moment to tackle it again./strong>
Still not 100% happy with it, but happier than I was, so improvement. I may come back and fiddle with it a little more, but for right now, I load it up to my website, make a few adjustments to the settings as I’ve modified the color palate and close the internet back down.
Time to really get to work now! Oh wait, the dog has a noon grooming appointment and the teen daughter wants to go shopping with her friends at the mall for a few hours. Husband and I split this, he’ll take the girls to the mall if I’ll drop the dog at the groomers. How can I say no to this face? (The dog, not my husband. LOL)
Back at home, tummy full of lunch (loaded baked potato soup, a grilled cheese sandwich and an apple) and I can finally get to some words. Which means I need to make a choice. I have two documents I need to work on. Edits arrived yesterday for Edge of Need, the 2nd book in the Body Masters series, and my editor would like to have them back mid-February. However, while I’ve been waiting for those edits to arrive, I’ve been writing Glad You Came, the 4th (and final) book in the Geek Kink series. That book is due to my editor in March.
Since I’ve been seeing good progress I decide to work on Glad You Came and see what kind of words I can flesh out. I manage around 1,500 words before the dog needs to picked up from the groomers. By the time I get home, husband and daughter are back home as well and it’s around 6 pm. We desperately need groceries since we have nothing for dinner, so we pile into my vehicle and head out to take care of this.
By the time shopping is done, items put away and dinner consumed (roasted chicken, sweet corn and a roll), it’s around 9 pm. I’m a little shy of my target caloric intake for the day, so I microwave some popcorn to much on. Teen and I settle down for a few hours for our regular mom and daughter “date” on Saturday nights in the library/game room.
Bedtime is around midnight since we get caught up more so than usual. As soon as the husband and I climb into bed, the dog promptly pees on his bed. Luckily he just got a little excited and it isn’t much, but the cover of his bed has to be stripped off and dumped into the washing machine. By then, it’s around 12:30 and my eyes are burning because I’m so tired. Time for dreamland, where I will hopefully dream about Conlin O’Donoghue wearing leather and not a dog peeing on his bed…
So, that’s it, a typical Saturday for me. I actually managed to get some writing in, but ideally, I would have liked a little more. But I will take when I can get!
