A chance meeting with a stranger can turn your entire world upside down.
When Colton ‘Colt’ Bishop enters a bar in New York City, he has a plan. His job is to find an easy target and take her back to his place for a few days. He is working his way up the crime ladder doing a job he never wanted.
Lily Hilton has it all, but is hiding from a troublesome past. When she enters a bar downtown, and runs into her old high school crush, her entire world is turned upside down. She is determined to make him notice her, but that plan may work better than she expects. Colton does not hesitate to take Lily home and use her as his new pawn, but their past begins to catch up with them as their secrets unravel and he must decide what is more important to him, protecting Lily or himself.
Could these two polar opposites have more in common than even they realize?
One thing I loved about this book is that it was told from a man’s POV( point of view) the entire time. Something about a man’s POV in these stories makes it extra sexy. Pushes it a bit farther for me. With that being said, I love Colt’s character. Granted he’s a bit rough around the edges. At first you think he’s this dark, gritty, doesn’t give a crap about anybody bad boy….Except when it comes to Rose! After she abruptly leaves his life back when they’re teenagers it completely changes him in drastic ways, controlling his life choices and making him feel bitter and angry at the world. In hindsight, neither of them ever quite move on from it. Rose is his long lost love from his childhood/teenage years and she is his everything. In a nutshell, Rose is his whole world. At first this book goes down the kidnap/hostage story, which I didn’t expect, but eventually it turns into an action packed sexy story of Rose & Colt being on the run trying to save themselves from being murdered.
They come back into each others lives through very unconditional circumstances. I love how Colt has saved her so much throughout her life. It’s endearing and heartwarming. Even more so how he goes out of his way to protect women he sees in danger at times. This guy has a good heart! He and Rose cross paths again when she decides to come looking for him. She ends up being in a bar where he usually takes women hostage for his underground dealings. Of course, once he discovers it’s Rose, he goes into protective mode trying to keep her safe from the mob that’s coming after her. And himself if he doesn’t get the deals he’s involved in set straight. At first he acts detached and cold like he doesn’t care at all about her anymore, and tries to hang on to his bitterness & anger from her leaving years ago. Slowly but surely that changes the longer they spend time together.
The sex was very hot also. I think it compliments the book well. It’s not overly done with sex on every page. I think it’s added in just right.
I love the action in this story. Sort of leaves you guessing what’s going to happen from one chapter to the next. As soon as you begin to get comfortable at where the story is at, it throws another twist in. I also liked the flashbacks into their teenage years. Gave a deeper perspective behind some situations.
I was rooting for them the entire time to have their happy ending. And somehow, someway end up together. Was so glad to see that they did. These two have been through so much throughout their lives. I felt like they needed to catch a break and finally be together. This book stands well as a standalone. Or it could be stretched out to a trilogy? I could see it going either way. Enjoyed it!
