Jane Stiles seemingly has it all, a great job and great friends, all that was missing was someone to love. Lonely and bored with her life, Jane agrees to attend a party with her running buddy/sex buddy but little does she know, a chance encounter with a stranger will change her life forever.
My Body His is sure to take you on a head spinning, emotional journey into the world of BDSM. You think you know everything there is to know about the Dom/Sub relationship…You have no idea.
Author Blakely Bennett weaves an emotional tale of love, submission, discipline, control, compromise and ultimately loss of self that will leave you wanting more. I really did enjoy this book lol… don’t know what it says about me but I found it to be a more realistic depiction of the lifestyle as opposed to the billionaire finds a woman, gives her mind blowing orgasms, a few spanks, marriage and then happily ever after. Dom/sub relationships can run the gamut from the tame to the extreme, I see this as somewhat middle of the road although Luke would in no way be the ideal Dom (nor should he be a potential Dom) in a real life situation.. unless of course..you’re into that ~WINK~
My Body His was a riveting read. The story was well paced, well written and the characters, a well-developed, interesting lot. Bennett handles the details and imagery with great care as the reader is able to picture each and every scene. I felt as if I was there with Jane and the rest of the guest at her wedding. Beautifully done.
My Body His stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within me, anger, sadness, pity, and I even managed to crack a smile a few times. I truly felt as if I was on this journey with Jane and what a journey it was! How she could go from a seemingly normal life to being ruled by her vagina and a need for love, was interesting but I found Luke, the ass that he is, the most intriguing. I know women think with their hearts and men…well with their heads(No, not that head, the other head *eyebrow waggle*) but I just cannot understand how Luke could turn his emotions on and off just like that. I wanted to know what made him “tick”. He claimed to have loved Jane but showed more love and concern for his “things” than he did for her. I guess I just wanted some type of emotion from him. I’m sensing a story there somewhere..Luke’s story perhaps, before he met Jane? *hint-hint*
Jane, on the other hand, was a bit less intriguing but interesting none-the less. The things that Jane was willing to relinquish in order to gain Luke’s love and approval are simply unfathomable to me. We, as women, all have that little voice in our head… women’s intuition if you will, that tells us when something just isn’t quite right and Jane chose to ignore hers time and time again. Jane’s inner struggle of trying to justify the practical person that she once was with this beyond obsessed “stranger” that she had become was an arduous one, but ultimately, her need to be loved emerged the victor. Bennett hinted as to where this need stemmed from, poor relationship with her mother and an absent father but I felt that a bit of a back story was also needed, not only in the case of Jane but Luke as well. I need to know what personal experiences or perhaps traumas occurred in their lives that made Luke unforgiving and cold and Jane, love starved.
I know people may have a problem with the relationship between Jane and Luke as it isn’t a typical one in this “Fifty Shades Of Grey-esque” era. Some may say it’s abusive but honestly, I had no problem with it because it was consensual. While I can see the abuse and emotional mind “fuckery”, it’s what she signed up for. It’s true, theirs wasn’t a total TPE (Total Power Exchange) because she “had control” over her life outside of the house and she also had the option to use her safe word at any time. Granted, the use of her safe word would not only stop the physical aspect of their relationship but the relationship in general would also come to an end but again, Jane for whatever reason, was fine with it. Luke was up front with her from the beginning although initially she only experienced the pleasure but even after the discipline, she was still on board with it all for fear of losing Luke. She was so in love with the orgasms and possibly the man that she was totally willing to give up her identity bit by bit.
Over all, if you’re looking to move away from the predictability of BDSM novels that focus on the Billionaire and whomever he’s doing this week and you don’t mind a bit of “dark” reality with a dominant bite, you’ll absolutely love Bakely Bennett’s My Body-His!
